Hernia Surgery

Modern surgical treatment of hernias using quality reinforcing mesh and the latest surgical techniques.

What is a Hernia?

A hernia occurs when organs of the abdominal cavity (most commonly part of the intestine) push through a weakened area in the abdominal wall. It most commonly occurs in the groin (inguinal hernia), at the navel (umbilical hernia), or at the site of previous surgical incisions (incisional hernia).

Symptoms: Visible bulge in the groin or abdominal area, pain or burning in the affected area, feeling of heaviness, worsening during physical exertion or coughing.

Surgical Methods

Laparoscopic Surgery (Keyhole)

Modern minimally invasive method performed through 3 small incisions (5-10 mm). Camera and specialized instruments allow precise performance with minimal tissue damage.

  • Less postoperative pain
  • Faster return to normal activities (7-14 days)
  • Smaller scars, better cosmetic result
  • Lower risk of wound infection
  • Suitable for bilateral hernias

Open Surgery

Classic method performed through a single larger incision in the groin or hernia area. Suitable for large or complicated hernias.

  • Proven method with years of experience
  • Suitable for large hernias
  • Can be performed under local anesthesia
  • Recovery 2-4 weeks

Quality Reinforcing Mesh

We use only top-quality synthetic mesh from renowned manufacturers (Ethicon, Medtronic, Bard), which significantly reduces the risk of hernia recurrence.

  • Biocompatible materials - mesh remains in the body permanently
  • Minimal risk of recurrence (less than 1%)
  • Strong reinforcement of the abdominal wall
  • Quick tissue integration

Procedure

1

Pre-operative Examination

Consultation with surgeon, examination, ECG, blood tests. Evaluation of hernia type and selection of appropriate surgical method.

2

Day of Surgery

Arrival at clinic on an empty stomach. Surgery under general or spinal anesthesia takes 45-90 minutes. Post-operative monitoring in recovery room.

3

Hospitalization

Day surgery - discharge the same day in the evening or the next morning depending on patient condition.

4

Recovery

Wound check after 7-10 days. Sick leave 1-3 weeks depending on work type. Avoid heavy physical exertion for 4-6 weeks.

Recovery and Recommendations

First days after surgery:

  • Light movement is encouraged (walking promotes healing)
  • Analgesics for pain management
  • Light diet, plenty of fluids
  • Avoid lifting heavy objects

First weeks:

  • Gradual return to normal activities
  • Avoid heavy physical work (max. 5 kg)
  • Follow-up with surgeon, suture removal

After 6 weeks:

  • Return to full physical activity including sports
  • Lifting heavy objects without restrictions
  • Mesh is fully integrated into tissues

Possible Risks and Complications

Hernia surgery is a safe procedure, but like any surgery it can have risks:

  • Wound infection (1-2%)
  • Bleeding, hematoma
  • Hernia recurrence (less than 1% with mesh)
  • Chronic groin pain (rare)
  • Vas deferens damage in men (very rare)

An untreated hernia will not heal on its own and can lead to serious complications (strangulation, bowel gangrene). We recommend early surgery.
